Quest Inc. Receives Beacon Award for Diversity

Orlando, Florida (September 11, 2009)
– Quest Inc., a leading nonprofit organization serving people with developmental disabilities in Central Florida, was the recipient of a 2009 Beacon Award at the 4th annual awards ceremony on September 10. Quest was honored in the nonprofit category for embracing and promoting diversity in the workforce.

As a pioneer for inclusion, Quest has promoted the development and realization of a diverse workplace for nearly 50 years. In addition to celebrating diversity within its more than 550 staff members, QuestWorks, an employment service provided by Quest, finds jobs for people with developmental disabilities that fit each individual’s skills and abilities.

“Quest is honored to be recognized by this Beacon Award as a model advocate for diversity in the greater Orlando workforce,” said Katie Porta, president of Quest. “Quest acknowledges that diversity involves more than race, gender and age; true diversity also encompasses a work environment that purposely embraces the inclusion of people of all abilities.”

Since 2006, the annual Beacon Awards events have sought to spotlight community leaders whose beacons guide the way in diversity and inclusion. Founders include the Orlando Chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners, Walt Disney World Resort, the YaYa Network, and Orlando Business Journal’s Diversity Works initiative.
