We all have a dream vacation or experience that we spend endless hours daydreaming about. But for those needing extra assistance with everyday life, it may be difficult to accomplish those goals. That’s why the team at Quest, Inc. empowers the individuals we serve to participate in activities that so many of us take for granted.
The individuals we serve are just like everyone else; they want to see a concert, see a live show, go on a cruise and go to theme parks such as Walt Disney World. Our team members at our Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) work tirelessly to turn their dreams into a reality. It is especially appreciated when companies like Disney go the extra mile to accommodate our unique needs to make the experience even more enjoyable.
Our biggest trip to date was a magical Disney cruise to the Bahamas! A group set sail aboard the Disney Dream and enjoyed seeing Castaway Cay and Nassau. Tim Jones, Director of one of Quest’s ICFs, shares a special memory from the cruise. “Everyone on the ship knew one of our individuals by name by the end. He is a very friendly person who is usually the first one to say hi when a new person comes into his home, and the cruise was no different. Everywhere he went he said hi to anyone that he saw, and by the end people were saying hi to him first when they saw him because they were so familiar with him.”
Going on overnight trips are especially challenging considering some of the heavy equipment that is necessary. That’s why an overnight stay at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge was extra special.
One of our resident’s favorite Disney movie is The Lion King. Team members can testify that he will watch the movie on a loop because he loves it so much. He was able to watch the live musical show, The Festival of the Lion King, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park! J.R. Blood, a Quest ICF Director, said, “He laughed so hard he cried, which in turn had the team members with him cry, and eventually some of the other guests. It was a very special moment.” Watch the magical moment here.
We have been fortunate enough to take these deserving individuals to concerts and shows like WWE Raw, Disney on Ice, Chicago (the Broadway musical), Jennifer Lopez, The Jonas Brothers and Beyonce. A blind individual was able to enjoy the live music of his idol, country singer Luke Bryan. He sings his songs every day!
"These outings mean so much to the people we serve," said J.R. Blood. "Making these dreams become a reality can be a life-changing experience for the residents as well as our team members."
At Quest, we continue to work hard to provide meaningful experiences for the individuals we serve every day. After all, our mission is to build communities where people with developmental disabilities achieve their goals.
